DIY Bookmark

Hello my wonderful, amazing, crafty friends. today I am bringing you a fun way to make a bookmark. I mean everyone needs a good bookmark for when your reading that good book you cant get your nose out of; until something makes you get it out of the book. By making your own bookmark you can add a little flair to your book. As per usual I will be listing the products down below. I hope you give this a try and if you do share it with me :)

To begin this project I used the "fresh cut anemone" stamp set from The Ton stamps and stamped it onto some vellum paper with some versamark clear ink. I stamped the larger image four times onto the vellum and sprinkled two with gold embossing powder and the other two with champagne embossing powder. When when working with vellum you have to be careful to not burn the paper; to prevent burning the paper make sure your heat gun is nice and hot before bringing it to the paper. You also want to move the heat gun around; first to make sure you melt all the embossing powder and second so you wont burn the paper.

Once I finished heat embossing I die cut the images out with the coordinating die cuts and set those aside. Next I took a Canson watercolor paper that I bought at Wal-Mart. I then took some distress inks in the colors "Broken China", "Picked Raspberry", "Peacock Feathers", and "Mermaid Lagoon" ;of course you could use the colors you like, these colors I used for the background in which I will be placing the embossed flowers. I took the paper and then took the ink pads directly onto the paper in different places on the page. Once I finished placing the colors I took some water in a spray bottle and sprayed the water onto the page. Distress inks are water reactive so this made the colors spread through out the page. I also used my heat gun to dry the page as I was a bit impatient/ excited to do the bookmark.

Once I finished drying my page I cut it to 2 inches by 6 inches. Then I took my embossed flowers and played around with the placement of the flowers. I used the two champagne colored flowers and one of the gold. I placed the two champagne colored flowers towards to of the edges and the one gold in the center and glued it down with some liquid adhesive. You could use which ever adhesive you like this was the only one I had on hand; I placed a couple of acrylic blocks on to to avoid some of the warping that liquid glue causes.Once it was dry I took the bible verse stamp from the "Teacup Roses" stamp set form sweet n' sassy and stamped it on the back towards the middle with versafine pigment ink.

Once the ink dried I sniped off the excess of the flowers and rounded the corners with a corner rounder punch. Then I took a 5mm laminating sheet and laminater; I followed the instructions on how to laminate and laminated the bookmark. For this part you have to be a bit careful with how many times you run it through the laminater as the embossing powder from the flowers could melt. I then used the crop-o-dile to punch a hole and added a gold eyelet towards the top. Then I took some mint colored yarn and made a tassel to attach it to my bookmark.
